Tullahoma first responders prepare for Battle of the Badges on Saturday

October 18, 2017

The second annual Battle of the Badges competition between  the Tullahoma Police Department and the Tullahoma Fire Department will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21. The drive will take place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Blood Assurance donor center in Tullahoma located at 604 North Jackson St.

“Our first responders are heroes for our city day in and day out,” said Vickie Shelton, donor recruiter for Blood Assurance. “It is incredible to see the dedication both departments have to saving lives in our community, and we appreciate all they do for us. Police Chief Blackwell and Fire Chief Shasteen want the community to be aware of the importance of blood donation to keep the supply at acceptable levels at Tennova-Harton Regional Medical Center. Please join us for this special blood drive!”

All donors who give in the month of October will receive a glow-in-the-dark “One Cool Donor” T-shirt; donors 18 years or older will be entered into a drawing to win a $250 Walmart gift card. Those who donate through Nov. 25 can choose to receive either the monthly T-shirt or “I BLEED” themed socks to represent their favorite football team. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well as snacks and drinks will be provided.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.

Blood Assurance has three donor centers in Middle Tennessee including Columbia, Cookeville and Tullahoma. To schedule an appointment at a donor center or blood drive near you, please visit www.bloodassurance.org, call 800-962-0628 or text ‘BAGIVE ‘ to 444999.
