Project Lifeline Each year, Blood Assurance coordinates the Project Lifeline program. Project Lifeline is a series of blood drives hosted by over 90 high schools in the Blood Assurance service area.
Students who are 17 years old in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee can donate blood. Students who are 16 years old can donate with parental consent.
Donors must also weigh at least 110 lbs. These high school students are one of the most valuable donor groups Blood Assurance has, accounting for approximately 16% of all blood donations collected in the region in 2009.
Students and faculty members supply much-needed blood to help save lives in our community, while inspiring a sense of good will and community service among everyone involved.
Seniors at participating Project Lifeline high schools are also eligible to apply for the Crystal Green Memorial Scholarship Program.
Cord of Courage In 2009, Blood Assurance kicked off the Cord of Courage program. Students can earn a red cord for graduation based upon the number of times they donate blood during their high school career. Participating high schools will allow students to wear their red cord during graduation ceremonies.
1/2 Pints 4 Life 1/2 Pints 4 Life is a program designed for elementary and middle school students to learn about, and help promote, blood donations. By encouraging their parents and teachers to donate blood at school blood drives, kids practice community involvement and learn early on the importance of donating blood for patients in need. Schedule a blood drive for your school by contacting Karla Ramirez.
My Blood, Your Blood Since 2001, the My Blood, Your Blood multimedia program has been a learning resource for elementary, middle and high schools to teach the importance of blood donations. The My Blood, Your Blood project was developed by America’s Blood Centers and is endorsed by the American Hospital Association, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health, Pan-American Health Organization, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
